Staying Camera Ready as a Mature Model

In February, I will focus on Lifestyle, Beauty, and Wellness for Models Over 50. * Hello and let’s get started. As we age, maintaining a vibrant and camera-ready appearance requires a holistic approach that encompasses physical fitness, tailored nutrition, and dedicated self-care routines. At 50 and beyond, understanding and honoring your body’s unique needs becomes paramount. * Keep in mind these practices are for days when my body is not in a mast cell flare and the day does not start with iGE removal medication. Because I have a mast cell disease, it is important to know that the attention I pay to my body these days has greatly lessened the frequency of flares. All that said, this is my routine: * Personal Fitness: A Daily Commitment - Incorporating regular physical activity is essential for sustaining energy levels and overall health. I commit to a brisk 5-kilometer walk each day, which not only boosts cardiovascular health but also enhances mood and mental clarity. Every other day, I integrate 40 minutes of weight and core training to build muscle strength and support joint stability. This regimen aligns with expert recommendations and work closely with my physician to emphasize the importance of strength training in later years to enhance bone density, hormone balance, and metabolism. * Nutrition: Listening to Your Body - Nutrition plays a pivotal role in maintaining a youthful appearance as well as vitality. However, it’s crucial to recognize that dietary needs can vary significantly from person to person. Living with mast cell disease means that many foods, even those considered healthy for others, are unsuitable for me. As a result, organic free-range poultry serves as my primary protein source, which I pair with a few “friendly” vegetables (such as green beans, pea, broccoli, lettuce, carrot and sweet potato) and complex carbohydrates. Staying hydrated is equally important. Living in a subtropical environment makes hydration crucial. I ensure an intake of 2-3 liters of water daily to support digestion, skin health, and clear thinking. * Self-Care: Nurturing the Mind and Spirit - True well-being extends beyond physical health. I prioritize ample rest, recognizing that quality sleep is foundational for recovery and mental function. My mornings begin with prayer and meditation, setting a peaceful tone for the day ahead, while evenings are reserved for reflection, allowing me to process the day’s events and express gratitude. Balancing work and leisure is vital; I deliberately carve out time to connect with family, understanding that strong social bonds contribute to emotional well-being. This approach resonates with the concept of ‘healthspan,’ which emphasizes the importance of living a healthy, functional life. * There’s wisdom in the saying, “You cannot pour from an empty vessel.” To care for others effectively, we must first invest in our own health and happiness. By embracing personalized fitness routines, mindful nutrition, and dedicated self-care practices, we can continue to present our best selves to the world, radiating vitality and confidence at every age. * Which of these do you already practice? which would you incorporate? Let me know! * I wish each of you a very healthy February. * With Much Love, Ann Baker * Photographer: Ariel Cubas * www.Ann-Baker.com
